Jérémy Lachal is a graduate of Sciences Po Paris and holds a Master's degree in International Law. In 2007, he co-founded Libraries Without Borders (Bibliothèques Sans Frontières, BSF) alongside historian Patrick Weil. Since then, he has led the NGO, whose mission is to bring access to knowledge and information to people who are deprived of it around the world.
Through innovative initiatives such as the Ideas Box, a portable multimedia library designed for vulnerable populations, Voyageurs du Code, which introduces disadvantaged young people to computer programming, and the French-language version of Khan Academy, Jérémy Lachal has helped establish BSF as one of the world's leading and most innovative organizations in the field of access to education and information.
Today, BSF operates in around thirty countries worldwide, with an annual budget of €12 million, more than 180 employees, and offices in France, Belgium, Switzerland, the United States, and Canada. The organization has received numerous awards and recognitions, including the La France s’Engage presidential initiative, the Google Impact Challenge, and participation in the WISE Accelerator program.
In 2020, Jérémy launched the social enterprise Kajou in partnership with Libraries Without Borders, and currently oversees its development. Kajou provides an innovative technology solution that enables the distribution of digital content in regions with limited or no internet connectivity.
Jérémy is a member of the Clinton Global Initiative and has been an Ashoka Fellow since 2015. Between 2012 and 2015, he also participated in the International Leadership Programme of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA).
In October 2014, Jérémy delivered a TEDx talk on the Ideas Box during the fifth anniversary celebration of TEDxParis at the Théâtre du Châtelet.
