What if our obsession with performance – which shapes our everyday actions – has caused us to lose sight of what really matters? We have just received a letter from the future, dated 2038. It is signed by a ‘resilience’ consultant. In it, she describes the companies of her time that have managed to thrive in an environment that is more unstable, more constrained and more unpredictable. Surprisingly, among the winners are those who dared to slow down, build in redundancies, maintain carefully calibrated stock levels and preserve room for manoeuvre, rather than optimising everything to the extreme. This open letter from the future, revealed during this pitch, might well make you question everything you thought you knew about performance.
