In its last report, the International Energy Agency (IEA) revealed a 45% increase in the consumption of hydrogen in road transportation (passenger cars, buses and trucks) in 2022 compared to 2021, the latter being a year where it was still relatively low. However, to capitalize on this promising growth, the hydrogen sector must precisely identify the most relevant cases for road transportation, aeronautics and rail, all while considering the competition of batteries. Between 2020 and 2023, project announcements have grown around the world, but only 4% of production capacities planned for 2030 have received a final investment decision. Thus, what are the challenges and opportunities of the hydrogen sector?
